What is Trading? A Beginner’s Guide to Stock Market Trading

In simple terms, trading means buying and selling financial instruments. In the stock market, when we buy shares of a company at a lower price and sell them as soon as the price goes up to earn a profit, it is called trading.

There is a big difference between investing and trading. Investing is done for the long term (for months or years), whereas trading is done for the short term (minutes, hours, or days).

Main Types of Trading:

  • Intraday Trading: In this style, you buy and sell shares within the same day before the market closes.
  • Scalping: This is a very fast trading style that lasts for a few seconds or minutes, aiming for quick, small profits.
  • Swing Trading: In this, traders hold shares for a few days or weeks to catch a larger price movement.

To become a successful trader, a deep understanding of the market and strict discipline are highly essential. Without proper knowledge, trading can become like gambling, which is why having a strong theoretical background before starting live work is crucial.
